Vice Secretary Yu Tianqi visits the Confucius Institute at University College Dublin

 

From June 29 to June 30, 2024, Yu Tianqi, Vice Secretary of the Center for Language Education and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education, led a delegation to visit the UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland (UCD CII). They were warmly received by Professor Wang Liming, Director of UCD CII, Professor Xie Jiangnan, the Chinese Director, as well as the institute's teachers.

On June 29, Vice Secretary Yu and the delegation toured the Confucius Institute building and met with the teaching team, gaining a detailed understanding of the institute’s development. Professor Wang Liming highlighted the institute's achievements and key experiences in promoting Chinese education in Ireland. Vice Secretary Yu discussed the new challenges and tasks facing international Chinese education, the core work, and development goals of the Confucius Institutes, expressing hopes for greater achievements in the global dissemination of Chinese language and culture and the development of international Chinese education teaching teams.

On June 30, Vice Secretary Yu attended the graduation ceremony for the sixth training session for local Irish teachers at UCD CII and awarded certificates to the graduates. She remarked that the joint efforts of Chinese and Irish teachers will further promote the friendship and mutual understanding between the peoples of China and Ireland, providing essential conditions for practical cooperation in various fields between the two countries. Ms. Zhu Xikun, First Secretary of the Education Section of the Chinese Embassy in Ireland, attended the event. Teacher representatives Xie Peidong and Teng Zhifang shared their experiences and insights gained during the training.

Through on-site inspections and cordial exchanges, the delegation gained a comprehensive understanding of the operations and achievements of UCD CII, further clarifying the important mission of the institute in promoting international Chinese education and cultural dissemination. The visit also provided new ideas and directions for the further development of the Confucius Institute in other areas.
