Confucius Institute Summer Music Concert: Jinan Melodies Meet Ireland
On the morning of July 23rd, the Confucius Institute Summer Concert was successfully held at UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland. Young musicians from the Jinan Children's Folk Ensemble presented a fantastic performance of Chinese folk music themed "Jinan Melodies Meet Ireland" to nearly a hundred attendees who enjoyed the splendid concert.
During the concert, the young musicians played traditional Chinese instruments such as the erhu, pipa, ruan, yangqin, and sheng. The repertoire included classic pieces like "Horse Racing," "Tajik Festival," "Blossoms on a Full Moon Night," and "Song of the Hero," which received enthusiastic applause from the audience. Many Irish attendees showed a keen interest in traditional Chinese folk music. After the concert, the audience eagerly went on stage to interact with the young musicians and personally experience how to play traditional Chinese instruments.
Additionally, Caitríona Osborne, a lecturer from the UCD Irish Institute of Chinese Studies, introduced the traditional Irish step dance to the ensemble and guided them through an experience of the dance.
The concert was a complete success, with both Chinese and Irish audiences expressing their hopes for more such events in the future to enhance mutual understanding and cultural exchange.
