UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland 10th Anniversary One-Week Celebration Widely Acclaimed
With the popular Chinese folk song Jasmine and the enchanting violin concerto Butterfly Lovers, the UCD Confucius Institute 10th Anniversary Celebration was officially launched on September 24th 2016. The joint performance of the Renmin University Chamber Ensemble and the UCD Symphony Orchestra turned the night into a celebration of Chinese and western music, with such well-known pieces as My Hometown Palermo, Love on the land, A Tune of Homesickness and In the Hopeful Field. His Excellency Dr Yue Xiaoyong, Chinese Ambassador to Ireland, Professor Jin Nuo, Chairperson of Renmin University Council, Professor Andrew Deeks, President of UCD and 500 other guests attended the event. Director General of Hanban, Madam Xu Lin’s letter of congratulations was read at the beginning of the concert.
Thanks to the support of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, the Chinese Cuisine team arrived in Ireland and showcased Chinese cooking as a celebrating event on September 26th in the UCD Students Center.
The official launch of Doing Business with China: The Irish Advantage and Challenge was successfully held on September 27th in the UCD O’Brien Centre for Science. As one of the authors of the new book, Professor Liming Wang, Director of UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland hosted the launch and spoke of the background of the book. Micheál Martin TD, Leader of Fianna Fáil officially launched the book and delivered a keynote speech at the event.
On September 28th around 100 local teachers from Irish secondary schools and universities attended the launch of Irish Secondary School Transition Year Chinese Language and Culture Teaching Upgraded Resource Package as well as the Irish Association of Chinese Teaching Annual Conference, co-hosted by UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland and the Irish Association of Chinese Teaching.
On September 29th UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland successfully held a Chinese Calligraphy and Painting workshop, which attracted a great number of Irish students and parents to participate.
On September 30th fans of famous Chinese performing artist Huang Hong finally got to meet him in the UCD O’Brien Centre for Science, where the Chinese quyi arts history lecture was also held. In the evening of the same day in UCD O’Reilly Hall the World Showcase of Chinese Traditional Quyi Arts Performance offered the audience with an evening of laughter and great joy. His Excellency Dr Yue Xiaoyong, Chinese Ambassador to Ireland and Professor Andrew Deeks, President of UCD attended and applauded the show. The performance put a perfect ending to the 10th anniversary celebration of UCD Confucius Institute.
