The Launch of the New Website of the IACT and CI Chinese Day Held Successfully

On 29th November 2023, the new website for the Irish Association of Chinese Teaching (IACT) and the Chinese Day was successfully held at the UCD Confucius Institute. At the launch ceremony, the IACT held its Annual General Meeting featuring ‘Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Future of Chinese Teaching: Challenges and Opportunities’. The meeting explored how Chinese language teachers can utilise AI to enhance the teaching of Chinese language and culture in the new era of the digital revolution. More than fifty people, including members of the IACT and teachers from the CIs based in UCD, UCC, and the University of Galway attended the event.

Mr Garry Hodgins, President of IACT, delivered a welcome address for the event. Ms Borui Zheng (UCC CI), Mr Yue Zhao (CI at the University of Galway), and Mr Lichao Li (UCD CI) shared their practical insights on how to effectively use AI in teaching Chinese language. After the sharing sessions, a new board was elected by all members of IACT, with Ms Selena Wilkes elected as the new President of IACT.

Apart from the Meeting, the Chinese Day included various Chinese cultural workshops, such as food tasting, calligraphy, chopsticks competition, cultural map, and Hanfu photo sessions, showcasing traditional Chinese culture and providing participants with unforgettable and diverse cultural experiences. The event is organized by IACT and sponsored by the Chinese Embassy in Ireland and the UCD Confucius Institute.
