Irish Final of the 20th ‘Chinese Bridge’ Competition Co-hosted by Chinese Embassy in Ireland and UCD

Organised by the Centre for Language Education and Cooperation of China and co-hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Ireland and UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland, the Irish final of the 20th ‘Chinese Bridge’ Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students kicked off on August 4. Originally scheduled to take place on May 22, the event was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Seven judges from UCC, NUI Galway, TU Dublin, DCU, NUI Maynooth and UCD conducted online video scoring for the final round of the Chinese Bridge Competition. Matthew Kelly from UCD won the top prize, Nicholas Mahon from TCD won second prize and Marium Baig and Ronan Keohane from UCC won third prize.

Despite the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the competition attracted a good number of Irish college students who are learning Chinese. The contestants showcased their talents and passion for Chinese learning at the competition.
