Background
Dr. Xie Jiangnan is professor of Theater Studies, Renmin University of China where she teaches courses in Shakespeare Studies and British Drama. Her research and academic interests are primarily in areas pertaining to British and American Drama, Bernard Shaw studies, Feminist Theater Studies and Shakespeare Studies. Her education includes BA (Sichuan), MA (Henan), PhD (Beijing) and Visiting Scholar (UCLA 2001, Harvard University 2011). Her major publications include A Guide to contemporary British and American Plays (2023), The Romance of Phoenix Hairpin:A Kunqu Opera (2022),The Romance of Xiuru: A Kunqu Opera (2021), A Guide to Shakespeare’s Plays (editor-in-chief) (2017) A New Interpretation of George Bernard Shaw (2013), The Biography of William Shakespeare (2008). Her major translated works include Rilke, Modernism and Poetic Tradition (2011), Beijing Opera (2008), What Good Are the Arts? (2007), Dark Princess (2000). Xie Jiangnan has also published extensively in peer-reviewed journals in the above fields.
