In 2007, the UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland carried out a national survey to investigate demand for teaching Chinese as a foreign language in Irish post-primary schools. 24.1% of post-primary schools responded to the survey (181 out of 750). The results indicated a high level of interest in Mandarin Chinese. Since then, the UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland has been promoting Chinese Language and Culture modules in Irish secondary schools.
We have worked closely with the NCCA and schools to provide interesting, innovative, creative and interactive modules for Irish students. Currently, Confucius teaching staff delivers Chinese Language and Culture courses to more than 50 schools nationwide.
