Chinese Language Training for Irish Secondary School Teachers

This is a one year evening course (approx. 45 hours) designed for:

·         Teachers who are interested in studying the Professional Diploma in Teaching Chinese Language and Culture, but have no previous learning experience of Chinese.

·         Teachers who have no previous learning experience of Chinese, and are interested in tasting the language.


Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:

·         Know 200-300 words of core vocabulary.

·         Achieve the language proficiency equivalent to HSK 2, which will enable them to pass the entrance examination of the Professional Diploma in Teaching Chinese Language and Culture.

·         Lay a solid foundation for further study of Chinese language.

·         Start building up their language capacity to teach simple and basic Chinese words or phrases to pupils.



Class for 2017/18 will run from September 2017 to June 2018, 1.5 hours per week, for 30 weeks.

School holiday calendar is followed. (No class during October and February mid-term break, 2 weeks for Christmas and 2 weeks for Easter)

Course Fees

Term 1: FREE

Term 2: €150

Term 3: €150


This €300 course fee will later be deducted from the tuition fees of Professional Diploma in Teaching Chinese Language and Culture.
