Local Chinese teacher training by UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland (CII) commenced on February 2nd, 2019. The objective of the training course was to increase Chinese language teaching (CLT) efficiency and performance and to improve methods of CLT promotion. It also aimed to train a cohort of high-qualified local teachers and build a local teacher reserve. The ‘China in my Eyes’ Art Competition drew to a successful close at UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland (CII) on November 25th, 2018. Present at the event were participating children and their parents, along with Chinese Ambassador to Ireland H.E. Dr. Yue Xiaoyong and his diplomat team including Mr. Sheng Mingchun, chief of Political and Press Section, Education Officer Mr. Zheng Dawei and Cultural Officer Mrs. Wang Oujia, who was also a Competition judge. Also at the event were Vice President of China’s South-Central University for Nationalities Prof. Dongyun Du, UCD CII Director Prof. Liming Wang, UCD CII Chinese Director Mr. Wei Zhang, the Art Competition judges Ms. Jean Lownders, Mr. Thomas Duffy, Ms. Fengli Yu and Ms. Yi Jiang. On the morning of November 5, Beijing Education Fair 2018 was successfully held at UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland, attended by Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication, Beijing Forestry University, Beijing Youth Politics College, North China Electric Power University and other eight middle schools in Beijing. The Open Day of University College Dublin (UCD) was officially launched on 3rd November 2018. All sorts of activities attracting thousands of students and parents started from 10 am. Many visitors visited the new building of the UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland where they learned the Chinese curriculum provided in UCD, and also experienced Chinese culture by participating in tea ceremony, Chinese chess, calligraphy and paper-cutting events.
